Martinique Forest Information and Data

According to the U.N. FAO, 46.2% or about 49,000 ha of Martinique is forested, according to FAO. Martinique had 2,000 ha of planted forest. Martinique's forests contain 8 million metric tons of carbon in living forest biomass. Biodiversity and Protected Areas: Martinique has some 207 known species of amphibians, birds, mammals and reptiles according to figures from the World Conservation Monitoring Centre. Of these, 4.3% are endemic, meaning they exist in no other country, and 4.3% are threatened. Martinique is home to at least 1287 species of vascular plants, of which 2.3% are endemic. 2.5% of Martinique is protected under IUCN categories I-V.
