Lower
Taxes and Save the Environment?
It may be possible to lower income taxes while saving the environment. Worldwatch Institute reports that Americans
can cut their tax burdens by 15% by levying taxes on businesses that consume precious natural resources and pollute.
Such environmental taxation in Holland has reduced heavy metal leakage of cadmium, copper, lead, mercury, and zinc
by 97% since 1976. The Institute reports that less than 5% of taxes come from activities that directly hurt the
environment, while the vast majority of taxes are levied on earning and other activities.
